is this common or uncommon at most schools...i hear of some students who get waitlisted at 5 schools and they never hear from any of them, and i know people who have been accepted off the waitlist for up to 3 schools...does anyone have any information source about what schools are 'waitlist friendly'? how about the schools where waitlist = rejection

i say go by the # of acceptances offered/class size.........then you'll have a basic idea......its definitley not a guarantee of how active the waitlist is, but then you get an idea of how many withdraw their acceptance............

Clearly your ranking on any wait list is key to anticipating if you have a realisitc chance of gaining admission. Some schools will give you an idea (e.g. top 1/3 versus middle or bottom 1/3) of how you rank and historically how much movement there's been off of their wait list. Contact those schools where you are wait-listed to obtain as much info as you can.
