Hey Everyone,

I have been reading posts on SDN throughout the summer and I am extremely grateful for all of the information that everyone has provided. I was wondering if anyone could give me a little input on my statistics and what my chances are of obtaining an interview:

GPA: 3.84
sGPA: 3.78
nsGPA: 3.93

DAT PAT: 18
DAT QR: 18
DAT RC: 19
DAT Biology: 20
DAT Gen Chem.: 19
DAT Org. Chem: 20
DAT TS: 19
DAT AA: 19

I am an Ohio resident and my father is a general dentist as well. I applied to Ohio State, Case Western Reserve, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, University of Michigan, University of Connecticut, Marquette, Louisville, and Indiana University.

I have worked in my fathers office for 2400 hours and have been exposed to roughly 450 hours of observation between watching my father (an OSU dentistry graduate) and the other doctor that works in his office.

You have good stats overall. I would not worry about your DAT scores, as they are above average nationally and about the average DAT score for accepted applicants. I think you will definitely get interviews somewhere, and then rest will be up to you.

Thank you, qkchen!

My number one choice is Ohio State and I am just nervous that my scores are a bit low!

You seem like you have a well-rounded app. Plus, legacy from your dad couldn't hurt either. 🙂

Thank You, teethfordays!

I was wondering the same thing...Does legacy carry a lot of weight? I have not read much about the impact of legacy on SDN. Does anyone know anything about its significance?

Legacy matters to some top tier private and Ivies but not sure about OSU. Like the other poster said, having your father graduate from that school is never a bad thing though...and neither is having a dentist in the family.

Regardless, your app is solid even without any benefits gained through lineage. Yes the DAT is just avg. but the rest is so totally not! I feel you'll probably get in. Good luck!
