Depends on some factors. How far you are on the wait list, what is the average they move on the wait list are two key factors. I'm sure there's more but can't think of more right now. If in doubt, I would call the school.

Also, is your position on the waitlist fixed or flexible? I.e. will you always be #20 or can you be changed to #38 if more competitive applicants come along. As wimmcs stated your best source for information is that particular school so go ahead and give them a call. Best of luck!
