Hi Everyone,

I currently withdrew from my anatomy and biology 1 lab courses this semester (for some reason, my community college allows you to take the bio 1 lecture and lab separately). This is the only withdrawal I have on my transcript. My academic history looks like this...

Graduated with a degree in Business Economics (with a minor in Management) from UC Irvine with a 3.50 GPA in 2008.

Currently have a 4.0 GPA at my community college where I have taken General Psychology, Abnormal Psychology, Chemistry 1A, Bio 1 Lecture, and a Bio 10 course which was a pre-requisite needed in order to take Physiology.

I scored an 1160 on the GRE (410 on Verbal, 750 on Math, 4.0 writing).

I also have more than 100 hours of observation in an outpatient clinic, 70 hours at a nursing home, and I plan on getting more hours in a hospital setting.

My question is how badly will this withdrawal affect my chances of getting into PT school? I plan on applying to 15 schools as well.

Thanks!!

I wouldn't stress too much on a W. Ws don't affect GPAs and your stats look good. I had a W and haven't been rejected from any of the programs I applied to yet. 15 schools sounds a little overboard. I consider you a pretty competitive applicant.

I had a W on my transcript and I got into several schools. Withdraw now and retake the class later. One W won't hurt, but don't collect them either.

Thanks guys! That's comforting to know that the withdrawal shouldn't affect me too much. Out of curiosity, did the places you applied to ask about the withdrawal? And if so, what did you tell them? Also, which schools did you guys apply to?

Actually, I guess that question just pertains to Kevin as I just noticed Greco has the list of schools he applied to, lol

A couple of schools asked me about the withdrawal. I forget which ones in particular but I know it came up a couple of times. I explained what happened. You can also explain the W on PTCAS. I applied to schools in Virginia, Florida, UDel, GW, and Tennessee.

I explained to them exactly what happened. I had enrolled in a calculus-based physics course, which was beyond my capabilities. I only enrolled because college physics was full. I was barely maintaining a C. So I withdrew, took trig-based physics at the community college and got an A.
