Does one C and 4 Bs look bad on transcript for medical school although you end up with a 3.8 gpa and a good science gpa and your MCAT score is 34?

As a biomedical engineering student do I have better chances of getting into medical school as opposed to someone doing Biology and has a 3.9 gpa? The curriculum for the biomedical engineering program is much harder. I also have a lot of health care experience.

Also, I am South Asian. I am from Pakistan. On my application I put that I am Asian. Doe that put me at a disadvantage because I would not be considered minority in the medicine world just because I put "Asian?" Technically, I am part of a minority group.

sigh. Unless you're mcat is 4 15 15, you are fine. with a 3.8, I seriously hope you are trolling...

Not sure how to answer your ethnicity question. What kind of neighborhood were you raised in? Did you grow up in Pakistan?

I think the national average for sGPA is around a 3.6. Can't get that without having some B's in there.

Lol there are students who have F's and still they turn in around they do get accepted and you asking for ONE C and 4 B's .... interesting

no one can answer this without knowing every single thing that's in your application. you already submit. just be patient and wait and you'll get your answer.

and "asian" is not a minority in medicine.

A fellow Pakistani to another, I understand how you're so neurotic about your grades and consider 1 "C" as being a huge deal. But, really realistically speaking you don't need a 4.0 in college to get accepted into medical school (despite what your parents may think 😛 Your parents need to bring down those expectations a notch so that you can live in a world where getting B's is acceptable (and even normal) 😛). The reason why people think that you're trolling is because a 3.8 is the average GPA for accepted students to top tier schools like hopkins. A 3.8 and a 34 makes you competitive everywhere and gives you a good shot at a top 50 acceptance atleast. So stop being neurotic, not everyone gets straight A's throughout their college career. I got into a top 20 with a 3.9 and a 31 with a biochemistry major, so go figure how much of a disadvantage you have being a Pakistani. If you have the stats, and the personality and the reason/desire for becoming a physician then no1 is going to go like "but wait he's pakistani and there are already too many brown doctors out there".

So my big lesson for life, not everyone has a 4.0. And it is OKAY not to have one. Your parents might think your doomed with 1 C and a couple of B's, but really my parents thought that they'd have to send me to the Carribean too 😛

Tons of people get in with what I like to refer as "multivitamin report cards" A/B/C/D/F all over the place.

As long as your GPA's are somewhat competitive (3.5+), MCAT starts with a 3, and your EC's are relatively decent (Volunteering/Shadowing/Research/etc.) then you should be fine if you apply broadly, interview well, and have no blackmarks on your record.
