Hey guys, I just graduated with a 3.7 cumulative GPA, and a significant healthcare and volunteer/leadership experience as well as two publications in community research. I have finished all of my pre req's aside from Orgo II and Biochem which I am taking this summer. I tend to test well, and I've tutored every class on the DAT except for organic so I'm going to put the work in to hopefully achieve a reasonable DAT score. I am planning on taking the DAT early to mid september. Do you guys think that I'll be early enough in the application cycle to get accepted somewhere? Any tips are appreciated, thank you!

if you tutored in all the classes except for orgo II, I'd actually spend a week or so just doing chads videos on that section and take a few boot camp exams to see how you're doing in everything else.

Given your history, Sept is way far off in my opinion, especially if you have a 3.7. I'd aim for end of june if the scores are positive. I would just take orgo II and biochemistry in the fall.

I understand wanting to get those classes done and be one step closer to graduation, but the big fish here is the GPA and the DAT. The classes can wait. You can most probably land a few interviews if you took DAT in Sept, but I wouldn't feel comfortable with that.

Hmmm I didn't think of that. So I could take the DAT while I'm in Organic and then finish the pre req's after testing? I'm assuming I can apply before I've taken the final pre req if it's in progress?

Hmm, I think you will be pushing it. If you take the DAT in Sep, you will be looking at your app being completed in October. By then, many interviews will have been given out and apps submitted in prior months will be backlogged for post-dec interviews. I finished my DAT Aug 24th and looking back, that was really really pushing it. It's possible to come out alive and get in this cycle, but a late app really hurts. Is there anything that you can change?

I'm not sure what I can change, I can definitely self teach organic II, are you saying that I could test early if I can self teach the materials, then take the final pre requisites after I've taken the DAT? Will colleges accept pre requisite classes as 'in progress' rather than completed?

Is organic I done? If so, you can take the DAT and study orgo II on your own, which is essentially just new reactions. If you had a strong foundation, you can actually make educated guesses on new reactions you havent seen before, thats why orgo is great. Chad is enough to get you by.

Leave orgo II and biochemistry for the fall. Focus on DAT this summer. Schools just want all courses done by enrollment, not by DAT date.

That's one alternative. A less favorable thing would be to apply for the next cycle. While a lot of people do apply to school with prereqs in progress, taking the DAT without Organic II is risky. Doable, but risky. If you have a strong foundation in Organic I then I would say go for it.

I'd say risky too but he's tutored in other subjects. School obviously thinks he's quick on his feet. He's consistency been exposed to this material if he's been tutoring.

Yes, Organic I is completed. I think I will try to do this then, thank you!

Thank you, I've tutored each subject for two consecutive years. It has certainly helped solidify the information. What's the latest that you think I should take the DAT then?

Also, not sure if it's relevant, but I just got my bachelors in nursing. I've got about 1200 hours of patient contact, and am currently working as a graduate nurse in pediatrics.
