Basically the numbers are all over the place....are the high scores enough to balance out the 16's? Is the AA more important that the individual subsections?

What schools would be good to target with these scores?

Thx! 🙂

Many schools have cut offs at 17 but in the ADEA Guide I have seen people getting in with 14s so you can try and apply.

A 16 in Biology and a 16 in Ochem isn't gonna cut it. You have plenty of time to retake if you want to. That Bio section can be crazy random..

i would suggest retaking

You will not get in with two 16's in the science section and on the PAT. Retake is necessary. It looks like you didn't even study.

OP, is there a reason you're not looking into a DAT retake? I think you should strongly consider it. If you do better on the retake, it will increase your chances of getting in somewhere.

Assuming your GPA is spectacular, if you want to get in somewhere with your scores (and people do get in with lower scores, as evidenced from the DAT and GPA ranges made available by dental schools), I think you should look at schools with lower DAT stats. You can look at the ADEA Official Guide to Dental Schools or the document in this thread to get a good idea of what schools' averages are for DAT and GPA.

I don't think anyone can say for sure whether or not OP wil or will not get in somewhere. Yes, 16's don't look good and it makes it less likely that OP will get in somewhere, but if you look at doc toothache's GPA and DAT ranges made available by dental schools, you'll see that the lower end of the TS range tends to be 13-16 for most dental schools. In fact, I know of someone who got in this cycle with a 16 TS.

As I've already stated, getting in with lower scores is less likely, but certainly not impossible. Whether or not someone gets in depends on the whole application, and no one on this forum can say for certain whether anyone else is going to get in or not.

Wow, a 13 TS? I just puked in my mouth.

I took the exam last summer.....I studied for about 3 weeks (8 hours per day). I only had access to 2 practice tests so I didn't have much PAT practice as is probably necessary. The general chemistry, rc, and qr reasoning came pretty easily with little practice (chem major), but organic was always tough for me.

Basically, after the summer, I had a lot of personal issues come up and fell into a deep depression. I gave up on pursuing dental school and only recently decided to focus on it again. I would like to apply this cycle but don't know if I would be able to relearn all the material for a retake. When would be the latest to retake the exam and still have an early app? Can I submit my app before retaking?

Thanks!

I think the latest to retake and still have an early app would be July, but I do think the focus should be on doing well on the DAT rather than submitting early, as submitting earlier with such a low score isn't going to do you many favors. And yes, you can submit your application and indicate on it that you'll be retaking the DAT.

It seems as if you're not very confident in your abilities to do well on this exam. Am I reading that right? It's important to be confident in your abilities when you're approaching an exam such as the DAT.

way too many 16s (and in important subjects like biology).... retake is necessary IMO even if you have a high GPA

You would not have been admitted to my state school with a 16 PAT, much less a 16 in Bio as well. I can't speak for other schools, but I would go as far as to say that you need to retake. The bright side is not only will you likely increase those poor scores, but your other scores as well! Good luck!

16 PAT
16 in some of the sciences

Re-take necessary. Good luck
