  1. Pre-Dental
So here goes:
oGPA: 3.15
sGPA: 3.0
DAT: AA 22, RC 23, OC 22, GC 20, QR 23, PAT 20,
BA in Russian Language and Literature from UM
State residency: Maryland

OChem was taken @ a community college. My first year taking like 9 credits of sciences each semester. killed me. I am debating which masters to enroll in (SMP v MS in Cellular and Molecular Biology) for the fall. Any advice??

I have good ECs (lots of volunteer/community service hours, about 70 shadowing hours, and tons of clubs and organizations).

Schools:
LECOM
Maryland
Nova
UF
GRU
UNECOM
ASDOH
MWU-AZ

also the SMP is also WAY more expensive than the MS in Cell Bio at my state school (I can afford to pay cash for the MS)

UF accepts like 95/100 from in-state... People who are OOS normally need killer stats to get through... Dunno about the rest though!

Oh, really? I wasn't aware the ratio was that extreme. I may be considered for instate, though, because I was born and raised in Florida until I joined the Marine Corps.

Yeah, I was sort of doubtful about UF. But I do own a home there (renting it out there).

Also, I feel like I should clarify (because I was told it was unclear, even though I don't know how) that I'm not saying 95% of people that apply in-state are accepted, but that 95% of the accepted class is from in state.

That being said, my numbers were a bit off regardless. I think the ratio of in-state to OOS last year was 88:5.

Oh wow... I wish I lived in FL or NV still. The dental school guide gives no info on how many people from in state MD were interviewed last year. I just feel like my stats are low for University of Maryland. NV accepts like 80% of those in state who apply.

I know someone at UF that did undergrad in New Jersey, I believe it was. Can't recall his stats, but his extracurricular were pretty amazing, in my opinion. He was in rotation at the dental office when I was shadowing.

Does anyone have stats of the in-staters for UF? Or should that be assumed the "average" since they accept so many in state

Last year 297/598 in staters were interviews... only 88 enrolled
out of state 35/832 interviews... then only 5 enrolled

So about 1/2 of all in state were interviewed and less than 5% of OOS even had an interview... so I would say us OOSers our chances are pretty much slim to none

UNLV enrolled 48/68 in-state applicants in 2013, per the ADEA 2014 Guide. That's roughly 71%.

I have similar stats as you, so update/ PM me if you get interviews. Applying next cycle.

btw you should add NYU. I was considering doing a postbac, cheaper then SMP & MS (at least for me it is)

Hey guys, so reading everyone's amazing posts is making me a little worried. I have not received any offers or updates other than the fact that my application has been received. I know it's still early so what do you guys think my chances are with these stats. I kind of have a special case though.

GPA (science, overall): 3.6, 3.71
DAT (AA/TS/PAT/Reading/any section below a 17): 22 AA/20 TS/23 PAT/22 RC/none below 17

So here's my situation, I got in trouble with the school for a non-academic misconduct. It never went on my record, but based on the wording on the AADSAS, I marked yes for "Have you ever been found to have violated a school rule, policy or procedure, or an honor code...Please include any and all instances of misconduct, regardless of whether the school maintains a record of such misconduct or formal action, or whether it appears on your transcript." It was a minor case so I explained on my AADSAS clearly what had happened, and why it did not get recorded. I just didn't want to lie and risk anything.

Anyways, I am an Alabama resident, and I applied to Rutgers, Columbia, and Kentucky. What do you guys think my chances are?

NYU is a no go for me. I dont like the location. I could never live there for four years

Since you're neither a NJ or KY resident, and since Columbia has rather high standards, it's advisable to apply to some more places. However, I don't believe Rutgers or Columbia has extended any interviews yet, so it is a little early.

You cannot not like NYC. Haha jk. I love NY

Yeah, I dont like NY. I'm not into the climate either. I don't breathe very well in big cities with a lot of smog. And I like to drive a car everywhere. I have a big dog that needs to run and a yard is a must. And I dont like small apartments (as it is 2 people and 2 dogs busting out of the seams in 3500 sq ft). Its just not a good fit.

Dude I have the exact same stats as you! DAT scores are a bit different but have 22AA and 23TS. Good luck this cycle! It's an uphill battle for us but I have an upward trend for the last two years including a 3.7 average over the last four semesters. So hopefully that counts for something.

Haha that's pretty awesome. Where all did you apply to? I do have a safety school that I didn't mention, but I'm hoping to get an opportunity to go elsewhere. Oh and do you know if any schools look at your total score instead of total science score?
