Hi all,

I have been hearing a lot of conflicting advice from residents and 4th year med students so I thought it would be good to post this applicant scenario on the forum and get more opinions. So I go to a state school that does grading during the preclinical years. I high passed basically all of my preclinical classes and did not honor any major classes. I most likely will not get AOA. I have done imaging research during my second year and plan to publish. If pull 250+ on the boards and honor all/most of my rotations, will I still have a competitive chance at the major NYC programs (NYU Sinai Cornell) or is it a long shot because of my preclinical grades? Thanks a lot, I really appreciate the advice.

Do you attend school in NYC? The Tri-state area? The Northeast?
Do you have ties to any of the above?
If you answered no to any of the above, it'll be an uphill battle at the 'high' and 'mid' range programs.

Good luck! :luck:

Hi,

I go to school in NJ. I got to know the faculty at NYU over the summer and I do plan to do an away rotation there during 3rd year. But I heard that first you have to have the numbers before the connections start to weigh in on your application.
