Hey guys,

Im new to this forum but have been reading it for quite some time. I would really like you opinion. I just finished my 3/4 years at a Canadian University and am taking the DAT this november (currently studying this summer) i have a low gpa...should be around 3.0 but a huge upward trend. What DAT scores do i need to be competiive in US/Canada i think i can get my gpa to about 3.3. do i have a chance or am i wasting my time?? 😕

with a 3.3 you are waisting your time at canadian schools, but you have a fair shot at american...

maybe do well in your fourth year and apply next year (ie. june 2010) and you will have a good shot at american schools... unless you are a native quebec

search premed101 canadian forums for some canadian school information...

Good advice. Maybe the US dental schools should use that as a recruiting tool. After all there aren't enough applicants with mediocre stats in the U.S./international pool and there is a need to expand the search east, west, north and south.

Canadian schools are harder? Why did you have such great stats and have a hard time in US? Did you have a harder time with applying to CA schools?

I feel you should definitely apply to all the schools you would like, even if they are in canada. Honestly your GPA is not horrible so you have a decent chance of being in. Although you are not gonna be top pick but who knows maybe you'll get lucky or better yet be on the wait list and find out in late April. Trust me its a pretty good feeling.
