Told myself I'd never post something like this, but here it goes:

D.O. student with a 211 on Step 1. I'm interested in allopathic EM programs. Any idea on my chances of matching? Advice on what to do from here to increase likelihood of matching? Brutal honesty happily accepted.

do a ton of rotations, hang out in the ER even if you're not on an EM rotation. shadow as much as possible. show them you've got more than low scores. apply very, very, very broadly. it'll be $$$ but all it takes is one program saying you're in. it can be done. good luck

How about USMLE I: 232, USMLE II: 243, but only one guaranteed SLOR, maybe two (one from DO program), did well third year, mostly honors, and I think honor for EM core rotation last month?

Good chances for chicago MD EM?

regarding your slors, as far as I know the DO programs don't use SLOR's. at least they didn't 2 yrs ago. also hopefully they're strong. definitely need at least 2. I don't know about chicago programs but your scores are good, comparable to other MD applicants. it's always a harder route for DO's breaking into MD programs. NRMP has stats on this. regardless of your scores, apply to all the places you're THINKING of going...then narrow down the interviews and rank where you're WILLING to go. if you don't get an interview, then the answer is simple. you're not going there. good luck!

I'm a DO and matched in an MD program last year. My Step 1 was a 202. So it can be done. I took the Step 2 early and got a 231. I applied broadly and busted my ass on 4 consecutive audition rotations. It can be done, but recognize that EM is getting very competitive and I know several people who applied to EM and did not match. So don't be shy about applying to a ton of programs. Focus on DO friendly programs. Do well on step 2, and make a good impression on your auditions.

47% for the OP. 94% for Dav.

Come on Active Duty, you don't need to be so cynical by putting it in percentages...

The U.S. soccer team making the final 4 at the next World Cup for the OP.

U.S.A. Basketball winning the Gold medal at the summer olympics for Dav.

They're asking for their chances, not anecdotal fluff and advice. I'm the only one who answered the question. If people insist on asking this question, it ought to be a poll. The consensus of the group is probably a pretty good indication of what their chances really are.

harhar har, how about DO, step I 251, half honors, half high pass on third year? very weak CV though, chances for NYC or philly?
