Okay, so honestly all I've ever looked at were md and do schools until recently. But the doctor I've shadowed mentioned podiatry, and I was curious what the general stats are to get in. I have a 3.4 gpa, 32Q MCAT (10/11/11), top 30 university, and plenty of volunteer and shadowing hours. Also, 2 years of research and a professional sorority. Thoughts?

100% chance of getting in anywhere you want. My stats are almost identical to yours and I had no problem getting interviews or acceptances.

Are you a senior/graduated right now? Were you planning on applying this cycle? Have you already applied to MD/DO schools?

Podiatry is awesome and you should apply!

Whew! Thanks, that makes me feel a lot better. I'm a senior right now, but I put off the mcat til september (bad, I know, but I was nervous) so I thought i'd wait til next cycle so I could start early and have another year of research and shadowing. Hmm, I might add some podiatry schools now to my list 🙂

If you're interested in skipping the year of shadowing/research, it is not too late to apply to pod schools. You can probably apply as late as February to be certain there are still seats in every program (obviously the earlier the better, and no guarantees that all the programs will still have seats in February).

I would apply wherever you'd like; pod, allo, or osteo will all being acceping of those stats...great job!

Nice stats, you might get some scholarships too bro. Just make sure that you do some shadowing and find out for yourself if you will enjoy it. If you find out you really want to go pod school, you're probably aren't going to need any of the extra research or shadowing, unless you really want to. IMO, its mad cool, a nice alternative to the typical MD/DO path. Not saying its any easier or anything, but the lifestyle is less stressful and rewarding.
