Hello everybody. So, I have an issue that I need advice on. I am currently a Business major. Will have lower division and all that finished and ready to continue on with upper division when I transfer in Fall '13.

My question is whether I should change my major to Bio Pre-Med or keep my current major?

I understand that a bachelor's degree in any major is generally acceptable but when you look at my situation what makes sense? Here are some details:

The main issue here is time. If I continue with Business I will have 2 years more to complete my bachelor's, plus two years of post-bac for pre reqs. So, 4 years.

If I switch to Bio Pre-Med, I will essentially "start over", but will get my pre reqs completed along the way (will have my Associates in Business this fall [Dec '12]). So, 4 years.

I feel like I should switch but at the same time feel like I'm putting my eggs in one basket by doing so. But, I also feel that by staying a business major I may be seen in a different light (less serious or not smart enough for bio). Idk how these things work. With my GPA and such (see my other post), I feel I should try to gain as much of an advantage as possible. But I'd also love something to fall back on in case no school ever picks me up.

Lmk what your thoughts are. Thanks!

If I could have done it over again, I would have finished up my major and then picked up the bio/chem/physics classes when I was through. You'll also qualify yourself for some great career-changer SMP/post-bacs if you're so inclined. I find that it's much easier to have one general topic on the brain than have to entirely switch gears over and over. My last few semesters of science only have been much more manageable than when I tried to interweave them with my other degree (psychology).

If you're looking at the same amount of time, I'd do the post bac. Start the hospital volunteering early and you can show that you have a serious interest. Heck, a business degree could be really helpful in healthcare leadership and administration. I've found my non-bio degree to be a great help rather than a hindrance in applications. Nothing against bio majors, but it does help to set you apart, in a good way.

I know that my post was very old, but thank you for the reply! Just an update. I am on schedule and going to be hitting school hard (Cut work hours). I hope to finish by December '14 by working straight through 4 quarters and a summer session.

Thanks again for the words of advise!
