Posting on behalf of a friend who changed his mind to pre-Med junior year.

Although I think his application will be strong academically, there obviously isn't a longitudinal interest in medicine.

During summer between junior/ senior year how would very well paid internship in previous career track be viewed?

Would it be better to drop it and pursue something medically related?

He is also considering taking an extra year or so post graduation to bolster his application and looking for opportunities during the school year.

It's best for him to get as much clinical experience as he can. Volunteering at hospitals, hospices, etc, as well as shadowing physicians. I can't speak for how well his paid internship will be viewed.

Thanks for your thoughts. Paid internship really has almost nothing to offer as far as I can see, except lots of cash (very marginally health related). But I don't think it will be viewed negatively, either. It might just put him behind a year... I personally think if he had a good summer experience that fit with his narrative of changing to pre-Med, he could apply this cycle, or at worst next cycle.

Like you said, a good narrative of his decision to change to pre med would be beneficial.
