I am going to be a PGY2 in internal medicine this next year and want to do EM- how does the funding work and will I be considered at programs for a position if I only have one more year of funding?

I'm assuming you mean GME funding. There is no "individual" cap. GME funding is capped on an institution/hospital basis. Hospitals can choose to go over the cap but they need to fund the spots on their own. What does this mean for you? Nothing. Your chances of getting into EM residency should be the same as someone else transferring from a different specialty (of course your background/scores/grades/etc, will matter)
