Changing ISP from Oct to July???

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I've know 2 different docs to have done this! Does anyone know how this works...and can you adjust it straight out of residency or do you have to wait until you have some time served?

I know one to whom it happened "on accident." He has no idea how it happened. If I could figure that out, it'd be great. I know if you go into a fellowship there is an opportunity there somewhere to change to July, but can't recall the details. Good luck. This is another great scam of military medicine-"You owe 4 years" they say, but what they mean is that you owe 4 1/3 years, at least if you want your entire salary that last year.

HPSP FOLKS COMING OUT OF CIVILIAN RESIDENCY!!! If they let you delay your arrival date (they let me pick any day in July) put it off until July 31st. That way the military only owns you for 2 extra months instead of 3. Of course, you have to have something to live off of for 6 weeks between your last residency paycheck and your first military one.....

Ya...both docs were fellowship trained...so that may be the catch! I figured it was too good to be true!

I changed my ISP date to July 1, and it is a GREAT move. Unfortunately, I think you have only one chance to do it--once you are completing a fellowship. Just another bit of inside information that is not well publicized, but keeps you from getting screwed your last year in the service.
