I have been working doing a tech job at a financial firm, which pays relatively well. I wanted to go into a research position ( i just enjoy it more) and have secured one, but have told all of the schools that i have been applying to what my current job is and the benefits of being in a professional atmosphere, etc.

I want to update schools on this job, but have NO idea how to talk about this without sounding like I am a Brett Farve reincarnate (a flip flopper)

any thoughts?

I wouldn't obsess over it too much. Schools really aren't all that individually concerned with each applicant to the point you seem to think. If you like the other job better, and it's more in line with your interests, I say go for it. Then, update the schools to let them know you've changed jobs. You don't need to explain it, but if you do, just be honest.

Agree with the above. I'd be more concerned trying to find a research position that will let you in knowing you'll only be there for 6 months, but apparently you've already got one!

well the question becomes: how do i make this a huge positive? I'm pretty sure im getting waitlisted b/c of thoughts that I may not be interested in medicine (totally untrue), but i do believe theres enough there to substantiate this. I feel like a lab job that I would really love helps...but how would you discuss this and the transition as well?

What's the research in? If it's clinical research, that'd sure make it easier.

unfortunately, its not. gene vector therapy for metastasis.

If you are already accepted to a school that you see yourself going to, I wouldn't even bother notifying the school. There is no employment pre-req for med school.

You have a job. How is that going to look bad? If you saw a better opportunity for yourself and you took it, I don't see what the problem would be.

im not trying to avoid it being bad. im trying to make it look good. Theres a difference!
