I'm applying to schools in my state (VA) and in Florida, which is where I want to live after graduation. If I obtained acceptances from a Florida school and a Virginia school (ODU or VCU), which should I take? It would be $30k cheaper to go to an in-state school, but would it be difficult or impossible to find a job and move to Florida if I graduated from a VA school? If it is impossible, then maybe it would be worth spending an extra $30k to go to school in Florida. Any advice would be welcome.

I do not see why it would be impossible for you to practice in a different state(FL) after you graduated from school(VA). Unless you are aware of the specific market in those areas, then I would probably go to the school that is cheaper(all other criteria being equal). People do it every year. I plan to be licensed in several states once my education is done.

Are there any other mitigating circumstances aside from tuition that would lead you to choose one program over the other?

Hey Kevin,

If you attend the VA school, it will not be difficult to get a job in FL. All you have to do is graduate from the VA school, then take the National Physical Therapy Examination (NPTE) and the FL State Jurisprudence Exam and you're set to practice in FL, wherever you want!

As I understand, VCU is a terrific program (even though it's in a basement). I checked out both NOVA SE and UMiami and I felt comfortable at both schools. My only concern is finding a job in Florida while living in Virginia, and then moving to Florida. But if you all say that graduates move to different areas of the country upon graduation, then I shouldn't be concerned.

Went to school in Philly, first job in Minneapolis. Given the fact that the job market is markedly better now than it was when I was looking for my first job, I can't see why this would be overly problematic.
