looks good! my school had a similar match list!

i was pleasantly surprised by the large # of people who got into ortho!

I just thought it was pretty good considering the school in question is a no-name state school with an emphasis on primary care, the University of Arkansas.

Sounds like their emphasis on primary care is really paying off.

but isn't it based on who applied where under what specialty? let me ask another stupid question...do most people apply to several hospitals for the same specialty or may people apply for a specialty at one hospital and a different specialty at a different hospital?

You apply to one specialty (or sometimes 2 if 1 is extremely competitive and you aren't sure of your chances).

Gotta put those numbers in perspective.

How big is the class size?

Where are those people going for those residencies?

Thats the problem with the statistics that you are given. What does the statistic that 60% of US seniors got their first choice in the match mean? It all depends on what their first choice was...

Id say thats a good list for Arkansas, and i know the plastics app and that person was the only one and got their first choice.

good match for them. I recall their average MCAT is among the lowest of all medical schools (allo and osteo) and around 24.

Puts the value of the MCAT in a whole different perspective...

Well our MCAT average isn't quite that low, I believe the average for this class was a 27, but they had a Step 1 average of 220.

I don't know how impressive these are, but some of the matches included:
ENT at Michigan
Ortho at Northwestern
Urology at UT Southwestern
General Surgery at Baylor Medical Center in Dallas
Med-Peds at Duke
Radiology at UT Southwestern
Pathology at Cleveland Clinic

Discobolus,

You need to realize that:
1) some folks will never admit that their school isn't the best
And
2) Those same people don't care about what happens Arkansas

I think it's a great match list. Personally, I think that naybody that attends your school can count themselves among the elite clinicians anywhere.

Don't you guys have the famed Dr. Edwards as your chair of surgery? I think one can search the world and never find a better person for the job. And isn't his son doing for European racing what Lance Armstrong did for cycling?

Peace
