Check your "Junk Mail"

The email program I use has code that segregates messages it thinks are spam and puts them into a junk mail folder which is emptied periodically. I usually pay no attention to this stuff as it is always porn or whatever. Today I happened to open the junk mail folder and found an invitation to fill out an online secondary. It was sent to a group of people all at once and interpreted by the email program as junk. Another day and it would have been automatically deleted.

Yeah, it makes those Junk Mail options less worthwhile when you are getting mass emails from schools and such. I have a big family, and even some family-wide emails get filtered out. The only real solution is to either turn the Junk Mail filter off or to check it every day when you check your email -- I do the latter.

While your at it, check your junk snail mail too. I almost trashed correspondence from a med school because it had ended up in the middle of a flyer from a local grocery store.

this is scary! yikes! i always empty out my junk mail folder without even looking at it. but then again i didn't give AMCAS an email that i use for websites, only real bonafide people get my school email address. i use hotmail or yahoo for whenever a website asks me for my email.

Haha, this is really funny. Keep checkin the Junk Mail all year long, not just at secondary time. My Harvard interview invitation got sent to my hotmail account and was in my Junk Mail box. I was all sad in February that I wan't going to get an interview invite then was cleaning out my Junk Mail, and there it was! So, really keep an eye out

I am going ot sound like a computer IDIOT. But really, is there a junk mail folder on the email program most schools use--Pine?

Does Pine have a junk folder??? And if so, how do you access it? I've received some secondary email invitations, so I don't *think* it's turned on..but you never know. Could somebody help me?

no, pine has no junk folder. if you use pine you're all set. unless your school uses filters, but i doubt it. just don't use yahoo/hotmail for med school stuff. use your real school address.

ya, that's exactly what I figured. I didn't want to use hotmail/yahoo because I had heard about all these problems. I'll check with my computing center just to make sure.
