Checking Requirements Before Applying

I am wondering how important or practical it is to check with each program re requirements etc before applying via ERAS, given it can be difficult to get someone on the phone or to reply to an email at some programs? 😕

I am not your usual applicant, given I am a Canadian, old (I once owned an Oldsmobile ), not a recent medical school graduate etc.

All the application requirements can be found online. I think the programs (I applied to) did a pretty good job of guiding me towards the "applicant info" part of their website.
