so here's the deal: summer 2006 I took bio I and II in the summer. I"m trying to take Chem I this semester, however, the class is full! Now, I have to take Chem I and II in the summer...which means I"d have taken 2 prereqs in the summer,

how are adcomms going to think about this?!

Please help, I don't know what to do:scared:

This isn't what you asked, but isn't there a way for you to talk to the prof and see if s/he can allow you a seat in the class?

I wish! there's no special permission numbers, and no way of getting into the class

i dont think it matters

If its anything like my school, the number of people in gen chem drops drastically. Talk to the proof, explain your situation. Most likely 1-3% of the class will drop/never show up so spots will probably open. Don't know why the adcom would have a problem with the summer classes. During an interview (I took physics over the summer) and was asked what I thought about the speed of the class and they said its become a popular option.

I took Chem 1 and 2 over the summer one year and in my interviews just explained the circumstances, I don't think it's too big an issue. Good luck.

I wouldn't mind it, however I took bio I and II in the summer previously, so i'm not sure how that would look

are you sure? because adcomms might think I"m taking the easy way out by spreading out my prereqs

Granted I have no idea what goes on in the head of an adcom, but I would think it might even be beneficial to demonstrate that you can manage that amount of material in a fast pace similar to what you may see in med school.

anyone get into med school taking two prereqs in the summer?

Last cycle I had my only acceptance revoked after the adcom realized I had taken phys I and II over the summer. 🙁

are you serious? you've got to be kidding me

You got to be kidding right? If it's due to circumstances out of your control, then it's OUT OF YOUR CONTROL. Good grief, man. Take it easy. Whos says summer is easier? Ask ppl who have taken summer labs for chem and see what they say. Summer is harder depending which school you go to. In fact, since the classes are alot smaller (but full capacity), there's less A's given out too. At my institution, life sciences (bio) is always filled up during the summer (and school year too). Sub. in another RIGOROUS course and the admissions folks won't have a problem with it. I can see why you feel that adcoms might look at it negatively, but that's only when you really lighten up your schedule with I don't know, Dance, Art, and Sociology (Intro) all in one quarter, then yeah, that's a bit light. My suggestion is focus on only what you can control. I swear it feels like many pre-meds get worked up on things they can't control (myself included at times).

I took my physics sequence at a substantially less prestigious school during summer sessions and was rarely ever asked about it. If I was, I just told them why I took it over a summer and that was that.

I think adcomms don't mind if its one prereq taken in the summer. However, I'll have TWO if I take chem 1 and 2 this summer.🙁

How the hell are you able to take Chem I and II at the same time? That doesn't even make sense. That really isn't a good idea. From my experience, Chem exams in a regular 16 week semester have 3 exams, and each exam covers at least 3 chapters. Each chapter has at least 40 pages of relevant material. I think you're asking for it.

As long as they are from your 4 year college it does not matter when you take them (it's actually harder in the summer because the amount of info you need to absorb is more intense).

I took four prereqs in the summer as part of my post-bac. Bio I/II, Chem I/II, and the four associated labs. ...all while working 48 hours/week. It was awesome. I got in. 🙂 Don't sweat it so much.

If you're talking about taking them both at your regular college in the summer, there's no reason AdCom's would care. In any case, taking classes in the summer tends to be harder because of the faster pace.
