I'm really wavering over the idea of signing up for organic I and II courses that are close to starting but I'm a bit leery of doing so. I had taken general chemistry back in 2007 and although I passed with a B, I struggled mightily. I'm reading other posts that despite its daunting appearance, taking two chem courses over the summer is doable. But do you think it's doable for someone like me who needs a refresher course?

Why take organic chem? I don't think I've found a single DPT program that requires organic chemistry as a pre-requisite, though I wouldn't be surprised if a few exist. Does your top choice program require it?

To address your question, it's doable, but I can't really postulate whether it's a good idea without knowing more about you as a student. As a non-trad student, I also struggled mightily with my science courses back in 2007-- but then I came back over the last few years and aced all of them because I was more focused and just a tremendously better student.

Thanks for the reply. I'm contemplating the organic chem II route because most of the schools are requiring a chem II prerequisite and I've heard that org chem II is less of a headache than gen chem II; I've also read that org chem I may be simpler than gen chem II too. Organic chem II is an acceptable prerequisite for chem II.

I had taken Calculus I despite having a tight grasp of trigonometric basics and I studied my behind off for that A. That alone give me some hope but to me, chemistry is a different animal altogether.

O-chem is hardly based off of material you learn in gen chem. Don't worry about not being up to speed, because everyone has had more or less the same amount of o-chem exposure when they start the sequence
