In regards to Le Chatteliers principle - does adding or removing pure liquids and/or solids cause the equilibirum to shift? I'm pretty sure it's only gases and aqueous solutions that affect where the equilibrium shifts but I just want to double check. Thanks!
 
Pure liquids and solids will not shift the equilibrium. Gases will shift the equilibrium but watch for INERT gases; they will NOT shift the equilibrium. Catalysts also don't shift the equilibrium.
 
99% solid and liquid do not affect the shift of equilibrium
but in some questions removing solid will shift to the product
for example HCl-> H+ Cl-
but you add Pb (just as example, let's pretend PbCl precipitates)
if HCl -> H+ Cl- is in equilibrium but you add Pb then Pb will react with Cl to form solid so you are actually decreasing [Cl-] so the reaction shifts to the right.

Solids and liquids CANNOT cause a shift in equilibrium but their concentration CAN be affected when there is a shift in equilibrium
