Hi everyone
I'm planning to take one general chem and one o chem during summer. However,I wonder if there is any pharmacy school that doesn't accept chem summer classes ?
I also have another question. Do the pharmacy schools consider whether you get a BS degree from a CSU school or a UC one ? Most of my friends transfer to UC as it's better and has higher reputation. However, in my case, I'm international student so the tuition fee for UC is much more expensive than CSU's.
Thanks for reading my post🙂

I know USC discourage people taking pre-req during summer. So if you plan to apply there, check with them first. I don't know if pharmacy school prefer UC graduates over CSU graduates...

I took 2 of my organic chem over the summer and it was a lot of hard work and dedication. The subject itself is not easy, and to compress it even more was just a nightmare. However, I did extremely well. Maybe it's because I knew I can't mess around and I studied a lot. I'm not really aware of any school that discourages the applicants to take the pre-reqs over the summer. I think it's ridiculous to think that summer classes are easier.

1. I went to CSU and got in! And i know of at least 7 other people from my school that got in this year (keep in mind I am a nerd and do not socialize well:laugh::laugh::laugh:)

2. On the other hand, the MAJORITY of students at USC and UCs are from UC schools. During UCSF info session they even told us that when admission committee is looking at your grades, they pay attention to where you took the class (with UC being the hardest, CSUs in the middle, and CC the easiest).
So yes, it matters where you take the class. I think,,,, if you get As and do not take hard classes in "easy" school - you should be fine.

3. As far as summer goes, there is a thread on whether or not USC likes people with summer pre-reqs -> check it out.

hope it helps

I'm not sure how to answer your question about summer sessions, but i do know, from personal experience, that taking chemistry, particularly organic chemistry in the summer is basically setting yourself up to fail, it's just not a smart thing to do. ESPECIALLY considering the fact that you need to know O-chem very well for PCAT and to become a good pharmacist!

Secondly, about CSU versus UC, it doesn't matter at all. As a matter of fact, I don't think pharmacy schools even give a crap which school you graduated from. When you receive thousands of applications, all you REALLY have time for is to quickly review your GPA, PCAT score and MAYYYYYYYYYYYBE Personal statement, all of the other stuff may only be important after you interview and the school is deciding whether or not to accept you. I know from personal experience, I went to UCSD and didn't get into a single California pharmacy school and my friend graduated from SDSU and got into USC, her GPA was 0.4 higher than mine, even though she majored in a non-science, pretty unfair if you ask me!😡

I always mean to ask you but forget, did you apply to every school in California ?

Oh, and about the non-science major that seems to be the deal now - major in liberal arts, get your 36 units major units done with 4.0 GPA and get into all the best schools. Additionally you have a ton of free time to do all that leadership volunteering stuff schools seem to like so much, no hassle with research or any of those crazy upper division classes we are dealing with. I was a busines major when I started college - should have stuck with it. 😡
