Hi,
I am late to registration at my school and I am taking a online chem course. Since I've been out of school for some time, I took a basic level course. I wanted to know if this would count in my Sci. GPA in my med school application? When we apply thru AMCAS, do they take every science course's GPA? how does it work?

This is the course:
CHM 100 Chemistry for the Health Sciences (3-3) 4 hrs.
Introduces basic concepts of inorganic and organic chemistry and biochemistry. Emphasizes chemical principles applied to biological systems. Laboratory exercises apply theory to biological and consumer products. Especially designed for students in allied health sciences. Meets the prerequisite of the Nursing Program. IAI P1 902L

Thanks
Ashwin

it depends upon content and which department is teaching it. I think you might be able to list it as a chem class and that would allow it to be calculated into your BCPM GPA.

However, on your amcas application there is a health science course designation for classes like emergency medicine, emt stuff.

It will probably count in your science GPA, but most schools won't take it to satisfy any prereqs.

yeah, i know that it won't count as any of my pre-req's because it is an 'entry' level class. I just wanted to know how the AMCAS system worked and if this would count as a science course so i can calculate it into my SGPA.

We have a class simliar to that at my university. The class is named "Chemistry for the Allied Health Sciences"...this class is for nursing student ONLY. It does not satify the premedical curriculum for chemistry. You need to take General Chemistry for chem majors.
