When I learned how to name compounds I learned exclusively how to name them with the standard IUPAC rules. However, Dr. Collins seems to suggest that they may give common names for compounds instead of IUPAC names.
For example instead of methanal they may instead give formaldehyde...
Can anyone confirm or deny this?
I would hope I wouldn't need to memorize a ton of common names, but I will if necessary. Thanks again
