Hey guys, got a question for all. I am currently completing a DIY post bac. I jumped right into chem 112 without taking any science for about 6 years. Most DO schools that I have looked at require 8 chem credits with a lab in addition to organic chemistry. Next semester I have the option to move on to 114 or I could go and take chem 108. Does it matter what one I take? I know that chem 114 will probably prepare me better for organic chem, but 108 is appealing because it sounds like an easy A. Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

Schools don't all share a common course numbering system, so it's hard to answer your question without knowing what courses you're talking about. My best guess based off the context of your post is that 112 and 114 is Chem 1 and 2 for science majors. Chem 108 is chemistry for non science majors or some into chem course. If this is correct, take 114. When schools say they want two semesters of chem, they are talking about chem for science majors, not chem for nursing or non-science majors, etc. This is true for all the prereq sciences.

Do schools allow retrogression? At least at my community college, if you take Chem 201, you cannot then take Chem 101 the next semester. You have to look for a course that is considered more advanced than the last course you took.

Your question can most easily be answered by the academic advising office at your institution. More than one student has had his/her plans sidetracked by enrolling in a class that was believed to be sufficient only to find out that it was for non majors.
