The following decomposition reaction SO2Cl2-->SO2 + Cl2 was run in a laboratory. Following data collected:

Time(s) Pressure SO2Cl2 (ATM)
0 1
2500 .947
5000 .895
7500 . 848
10000 .803

What is the overall order of reaction?

Please help, I think I got the right answer but I want to be completely sure. Thanks

A plot of the data indicates that the rate at which the reactant decreases is independent of its concentration/pressure (it's a straight line). This mean that the reaction is zeroth order.

If you want to see this by hand, just round the pressures to the nearest tenths place:

0 1
2500 .950
5000 .900
7500 . 850
10000 .800

Every 2500 seconds the pressure drops by a constant amount (0.050 atm).

Thank you Naijaba, that is what I thought... but I had one of those moments where you think "this can't be this easy!"
