Anyone herd about that program in Chicago that was going through some trouble? Which program was it exactly? Any news about it?

when i interviewed at Loyola, the director told me that the Univ of Chicago (UIC), the program you are wondering about in chicago, got fired together with his right hand man (co-director)!! For what? couldnt tell you...
There are three programs in chicago: the best one there is Loyola, then there is a little **** hole charity hospital by the name of Cook County, and then there is UIC.....

I interviewed at UIC cause i heard it was a 5 yr MD program. Piece of crap. What a waste of a flight and hotel. Cook county is across the street from UIC??? It used to be a combined program years ago....then split into two: Cook county and UIC. Cook county does tons of trauma....UIC does no trauma....and little dentoalveolar.....nothing else. I interviewed at Charity in NOLA just before....I wanted to laugh at the UIC program. Good luck

looks like you are just starting out in dental school..but that's good...you still have a couple of years before oms programs will let you extern, but i would start at your school and learn the ropes before externing to other places...UW is a good program, and it's not a bad idea to just show your face once in a while and let them know you are interested...and referring to your other entry in "oms and life"...doing those externships and just talking with the residents at your school will you decide whether oms IS the life for you...good luck...

I agree with DK. You should spend some time with the OMS dept at UW to see if you're interested. They have some really great faculty and residents there. Just hang out in the outpatient clinic and observe a few days a month. See if you can go into the OR and observe a few days a month. If you still like it after that then you can increase your involvement.

Thank you guys for your opinions.
I definitely will express my interest in OMS to the department at UW and get som exposure, and I think it'll really show me if I want to commit to the field or not. (after working in a research lab, I know research is not for me)
I was also wondering if there was any preference to graduates from their own school.
I know I may seem little anxious and even a bit foolish, but I just would like to be prepared and really start on the right track. What better way to do that than asking those who have paved the way.

If your school's OMS people like you, you'll be at an advantage for your home program. However, if they determine you're not nice to have around, you will then be at a disadvantage.

The thing that's nice about UW is that the people I've met so far in the admin/ faculty section are one of the nicest people. I would love to go to UW OMS program, if I can get in.
However, I would also like to go to the 6 yr OMS/MD program, which isn't offered at UW. That kind of makes me scared, since I've been living here all my life. I would love to know some great schools that I can adapt to, which offer 6yr OMS residency.🙂

I imagine OHSU would be the closest thing (geographically) to UW. However, I can't think of a better reason to move somewhere else than the fact that you have lived in Seattle your whole life! Take that hippie and put him down in Birmingham!

The home of people who pay $5 for a cup of coffee.... you got to love those people in Seattle. I need to go to Seattle and start a business selling the ability to scratch one's own itches for $4

put him in a place where the common person hasn't spent $5 in their life on dental care/products.... like Alabama or Kentucky
