Hi all -

I'm not sure if there was a thread about Prelim/TY programs in Chicago. I've seen the TY program at Resurrection and MacNeil and was wondering anyone had input on St. Frances, St. Joesph, Weiss, and U of C Northshore. As for the prelim programs, I've only rotated at Lutheran for IM and met the residents there. Thanks in advance.

bump. Please. Surely there has to be Chicago interns here! 🙂

I'm not the expert, but I interviewed at a couple. The problem is what's good for one is not good for another. I interviewed at Weiss, and there were some great attendings there (at least speaking with some during the interviews) but the whole program seemed very narrow, and I wasn't too impressed with the mindset of the residents. A friend of a friend is there and wasn't too happy with it. Saying that, I've heard some people love it cuz the hours aren't too bad as well.

I wish I had more for ya.

The U of C Northshore TY (?10 spots) and prelim (?10-14 spots) programs are pretty similar. The TYs have a cushy FP rotation that is exclusively theirs - but otherwise, there are only a few differences (I don't recall the details).

The TY program director (who is also the associate program director for prelim and categorial) is awesome and very supportive. Categoricals, prelims, and TYs are all treated equally.

I have posted numerous times on this program (previously known as Evanston Northwestern) so you know I'm incredibly biased 🙂

PM me with additional questions.

llinois Masonic prelim is not bad

even better if you are a DO doing TY

both have 5 months elective, can be at outside hospital for 1.

DO TY has 3 IM months.

cap at 5 admits, 2 transfers while on medicine

great part of town, good pay, subsidized housing...
