Hey guys, i might be going to uic and i was wondering if you could establish in-state residency after your first year?

Unfortunately, it's pretty difficult. They talked about that at the interview. You have two options:

1) marry an Illinois resident
2) reside in Illinois and be financially independent in Illinois for one calendar year prior to matriculating. There's also a couple of of more regulations for this one, I'm pretty sure.

thanks maygirl, do u know if you buy real estate during your first year, or prior to your first year, if you can become a resident during medical school or can you ONLY gain residence status before matriculating.

Truthfully, I'm not sure, but i think it's before. (I'm in-state, so I'm not really knowledgeable about this). But check this - it has an faq and the regulations:

Also, it looks like it involves more than just owning land....
