Hi everyone, thanks a lot for sharing your experiences and interview progress. I'm a third-year, just started pedi clerkship this week and really loving it. I'm already certain that I want to become a neurologist, but before this week I only seriously thought about adult neuro. Child neuro is a quite interesting new idea to me and I need to think about it through the next half year ...
My questions for now, if any of you could answer, are:
1, I'm limited in the geographic area for residency for personal reasons, and probably would only apply to about 5-8 schools, most of which in the top tier. I wonder if it's possible to apply to both adult neuro and pedi neuro for each of these schools? Would that be perceived as a lack of dedication and offend either side?
2, It seems like most folks chose pedi neuro starting from an interest in seeing children. My interest however mainly roots from neuro, and so far I can see myself doing either adult or pedi. I don't really find young children more attractive or annoying than the elderly. Do you think in terms of life-long career, this lack of specific interest in children would become a problem?
3, Is it going to be pretty much standard to do a 2-year fellowship, most likely in epilepsy, after the 5-year pedi neruo residency?
4, My home school does not have a pedi neuro elective. Is an away elective highly recommended or de factor mandatory?
