I am working on a secondary essay on diversity for several schools, and I have a list of possible topics/experiences that I could describe, but I am not sure which ones AdComs would prefer to read...I have read several of the past threads on diversity, including a helpful one with advice from LizzyM. I couldn't find a thread that answered my question though (I apologize if it is there and I missed it)...
Is it okay to discuss experiences from my childhood in this essay, or would AdComs prefer something more recent? I do have one activity from college that I am using, but it be okay if I also describe 2 projects/activities and 1 hardship from my childhood, especially if those activities were unique at that young age? I'm hoping to discuss how those activities and that hardship shaped my future goals, the skills/values that I gained from them, how I have used those skills in college, and how I will use them in the future. Would this be okay, even if the essay is heavy on childhood experiences?
Edit: I forgot to mention that I won several awards for one of those projects, so should I mention that as well to give it validity? Or would that sound like I'm just trying to add in awards?
