Hi,

I'm graduating from undergrad in May and after getting into a couple of grad school programs, I'm really leaning towards finding a research position for a year or two before applying for a PhD program in clinical psychology.

I'm having a hard time finding research that's in the area I find interesting, so I was wondering if anyone could help. I'm interested in children's behavioral disorders, especially conduct disorders. Also, anything dealing with SED kids, social and emotional learning, or school based treatment programs.

If anyone knows a lab dealing with something like this in the NJ/NY area, please let me know! Thanks!

Not sure if you mean NY the state or NY the city. If you're referring to the state, check out Bill Pelham's lab at SUNY Buffalo. Its primarily ADHD research, but definitely touches on several of the things you mentioned and is well-integrated into the school system.

You'll work your butt off there, but its a great blend of clinical/research experience. If you have questions about it, feel free to PM.

Donald Lynam at Purdue does alot of research with conduct DO and psychopathy in adolescents...he used to anyway when he was at kentucky. Also alot of work with ADHD and impulsive conduct behavior in adolescent's in the past. Not exactly sure what his research line is doing currently.

Im wondering if you have a particular age group you are interested in working with? Anil Chacko, a former student of Bill Pelham is doing work out of Mt. Sinai Medical Center and CUNY-Queens College and he is conducting research with preschoolers with disruptive behavior problems and ADHD...There are also some folks out of Fordham and NYU, look up Stephanie Jones, who are working in the schools...
hope this helps!

This does help, thanks! The age group I want to work with are preschoolers to pre-adolescents (around 4-13 year olds). I'm not being too picky about the specific line of research, as long as it is in some way related to children's behaviors.

Feel free to PM me if you want more specific information or contacts.

You might want to check out the Journal of Applied Behavior Analysis. There is a lot of Autism treatment research in there, but I've noticed plenty of studies involving other common childhood disorders too. It's a good place to go to generate research ideas/see what's already been done.

It's not NJ or NY, but Tim Cavell at Univ of Arkansas is working on what you've mentioned.

Thanks for the names everyone. I'm sending cold emails with my resume so we'll see.
