Would current students or future students suggest a hiking backpack with straps across the hips and chest, a rolling backpack/suitcase, a satchel bag, or any other suggestion?

-Unique Question-

I would say the type of backpack depends on what you will use is for... duh...

In my case, I knew that for med school I would need something to hold a few books and my laptop. I use, and many of my classmates use, the Targus line of bags. I found out that I needed even more space, for all the laptop gizmos, for my lunch, for my coffee, for my stethoscope, otoscope, ophthalmoscope, OMM clothes, work out clothes/shoes... 🙄

Well, I always feel like I need a moving company just to get me in the door every day...

I have a Samsonite laptop backpack that works well for what I use it for. All I carry with me on a day-to-day basis is my notebook and my laptop computer and maybe a book or two. Like DrB said it depends on what you are going to use it for. My friend likes to carry lots of stuff with him and has one of those hardcore hiking backpacks filled with stuff which I know he would highly recommend.

I use a leather laptop case that goes over my shoulder, but then again, I don't use textbooks.

try ebags.com

I bought a backpack with a built in laptop holder off of there that I don't really use now, but it came in handy last year when I had to carry lab manuals around.

Don't buy a rolling backpack/suitcase, or you will be made fun of.

The irony in this is too funny!

Along the same lines, the hiking backpacks w/ the straps across the fronts is sure to get made fun of too (unless you really bring a tent to pitch at the library).

I highly recommend getting one of those enormous hiking/mcGyver type backpacks. Make sure it has an umbrella holder, a place for your laptop, palm pilot, and cell phone. Make sure you can fit your lunch box in there, as well as about 200 pounds of "gear" being your books and bone boxes. I would also recommed a full set of luggage with wheel for those "heavy days". And make sure you hunting/camping/backpack comes with air condidtion.

Could you be anymore of an ass?

Shenningdo,
I apologize, I was just trying to be fecetitious. I wasn't trying to offend anyone, I just thought it'd be funny. I'm sure you can see the humor in that.

Oh, come on, Shenningdo. You've got to admit, it was just a matter of time before you got at least one response like that--no malicious intent, just a little fun. I was worried I would be obligated to give it until I saw that MaloCCOM stepped up.

Personally, I'd just skip the backpack and hire a caddy.

I have 4 bags: a gym bag, the PD bag with equipment, a backpack with OMM stuff + shorts for lab, and a Targus bag where I keep the laptop and the binders with the notes for the day.
