I am thinking of choosing biology because it seems like 80 percent of the people who are going into medicine are majoring in biology. Is this a wise decision? However, if I decide to major in biology, then I will have to stay at my community college one year because I will need to take some more science classes before I can transfer to a university. But if I major in something else, then I can transfer after next year. What is the best idea here?

Major in what you like, find interesting, are good at, and can get A's in.

Med school doesn't care what you major in as long as you get good grades, do the prereqs, show you can handle science classes, and jump through all of the hoops.

I also wouldn't choose a major based on when I get to transfer, but that is just me. You only get to do your Bachelor's once....try getting into a 2nd Bachelor's program these days if you don't believe me. Pick something you like.

If you have another major you really enjoy and are interested in, I would go with that. When you get interviewed (by anyone, not just med school) who do you think they want to talk to: the person who chose a major because they thought they should, or the person who chose a major because they were genuinely fascinated with learning the subject matter?

This is the unanimous decision around here.

I couldn't have said it better.

I majored in music because I loved it. Most of my interviewers wanted to know more about my interests in music. Most importantly, I'm going to med school next year. My point is study something you like.
