This is my 2nd year and I need to choose a major. I am interested in health care field and want a stable employment after graduated. I am good at math and OK in biology and chemistry. At first, I was planning to do pharmacist or dentistry but now I think that I am not smart enough and need to lower my expectation to a 4 years degree. My grades in intro science courses are usually around 3.2, which isn't really high enough for professional programs and I know that intro are the easiest courses. I really want to stay in the health care field. I am not really good with communication but a little talking with other people won't hurt me. Can you guys please help me choose a major in the health care area (other than nursing and clinical laboratory science) that can provide me a stable employment after graduate?

Thank you!

Social Work or Respiratory Therapy or Radiation Therapy

Bachelor of Social Work you will take an exam for a licenses and can work in many settings such as hospitals, mental health clinics, schools etc.. You can also get a Master of Social Work and work as a Clinical Social Worker if you decide to do that one day. You will get public loan forgiveness with the Bachelor or Master http://www.socialworkers.org/advocacy/updates/2007/092107.asp and can also look into NHSC which would help pay for the Master of Social Work as a Clinical Social Worker if you decide to do that one day http://nhsc.hrsa.gov/loanrepayment/ If you do the public loan forgiveness and NHSC you will come out with fair to low debt.

Do you have 45 credits already?

Brescia University located in Owensboro, KY has a Bachelor of Social Work if you have 45 credits you can get it with the online completion program. Even if you don't have 45 credits they would take the credits you do have for the online associates program that meets requirements for the Bachelor of Social Work online completion program.

Here is the school: http://www.brescia.edu/

Here is the program information: http://online.brescia.edu/online-degrees/bachelor-of-social-work-bsw/

They are accredited by the Council of Social Work: http://www.brescia.edu/social-work-program

Respiratory Therapy all I know is University of Missouri offers the Bachelor of Health Sciences in Respiratory Therapy and that might be worth checking out. http://shp.missouri.edu/rt/index.php

You can find a list of accredited school programs for a Bachelors in Radiation Therapy here https://portal.jrcertaccreditation.org/summary/accreditedprogramsearch.aspx

Shadow, shadow, shadow alllllll of the fields you're even slightly interested in. As far as I know, most medical majors/programs (except maybe nursing) require shadowing/observation to make sure the applicants are confident in their career choice, which is a good thing!. I get that you don't want to waste any time and have realistic expectations of where you stand competitively, but if you settle for a career/major now just because it's feasible or tolerable (as opposed to because you like it) you may be set back years from now if you hate your field and go back to school to pursue something else! Also, don't beat up on yourself! I learned somewhere around the middle of undergrad that while I'm not naturally good at some of the tougher sciences (like chem and physics), it was effort not "smarts" that ultimately determined my grades in those courses. Pharm and dent are competitive, but if that's what you really want to do there's no shame in retaking courses to get your grades up and putting tons of time into studying for the standardized tests to make up for so-so grades. Some undergrad-level medical programs at my college were Respiratory Therapy and Radiological Sciences - worth checking out if you're set on staying at the undergraduate level.
