Hey all,
I recently graduated with a Bachelor's in Biology. My cumgpa is 3.25, science gpa 3.1. The numbers aren't the highest due to the fact I did a little too much partying than I should have, but my extracurriculars are pretty spectacular. I founded (president) a club for URMs going into PreHealth, was president of another club, and did the 150 hours of volunteer work. I also have a year of research experience.
Here's the scenario:
1. I take a job offer working full-time doing research under an MD/PhD at UCSD. My plans are to apply to medical school next june assuming my mcat score would be high enough to outweigh my low gpa(I'd have to study for mcat while working full-time). My goal is to get into a UC medical school, but if not, it's okay. I have nothing against DO schools, it's just not what I'd want to be spending my time in medical school learning about. With this low gpa, what mcat score should I be shooting over? And if I took this job and applied to medical school, I would have this job to hold me over that year after applying.
2. I don't take the job for the sole reason that I need to spend the majority of my time studying for my mcat since I have a low gpa. I'd take community college courses to make it look like i didn't do anything besides study for the mcat.
3. I take the job, spend a year in it until next june where I'd hopefully enroll in a post-bacc which includes taking the mcat and all the coursework. I'd bang out both concerns of having all day to study for the mcat(june-august)and gpa but that would come with the cost of about 25k for the year including housing.

So which do you think is the best scenario? Or do you have any advice?
