Are people holding acceptances at more than one school right now? I am having a really hard time deciding between two schools I would love to go to. It is too early for financial aid decisions and the second look weekends aren't until spring, but this is also unfair to others.

Hang on until the financial aid info gets to you. You'd be suprised how you might love to go to one school more than the other after you find out how much they will both cost you.

You got two acceptances... you deserve them both and the decision of which one to attend should not be taken lightly. Take as much time as it takes.

x number of people will be accepted to medical school this year. that number is not dependent on how long you hold your multiple acceptances. they may have to wait a bit longer, but so be it. you most definitely should wait until you have all the information you need.

Another angle in support of the above replies (congrats by the way):

Schools that give acceptances this early know what they're getting into. They know you don't have the financial aid info yet, and that there's time before the 2nd look weekends.

They're not hounding you for a decision, so don't hound yourself until you learn all you want to. I'd suggest taking your mind off the whole shebang for a month or two 🙂

prmd, I had the same reaction as you when I got my second acceptance...if I'm holding two spots, aren't I cheating someone else out of a spot? Then I thought about it, and the answer is, well, not really. Schools almost always put way more people on their waitlists than they will open slots for. So even if you hold spots you wind up not taking, people will get offered the slots you give up later on. Maybe it will make things tougher for them in the end, but that's the price they pay for you being such a good candidate! 😀

Seriously, if that sounded mean it wasn't meant to be. All I'm saying is, I think we should be as nice as possible in this process, but not nice to our own detriment. If you have an acceptance in the bag and interview at another school you wind up not liking as much, by all means withdraw your app from there to give others a shot. But if you like two schools about the same, there's nothing wrong with waiting to see which comes through with the better financial aid offer. Check out AAMC's statement on the subject if you still have doubts...it helped assuage mine.
