Hi everyone.

I have been accepted into the DPT program at the following schools: New York Medical College, LIU Brooklyn, and Touro College. Among these, I was wondering if anyone has any advice on which program to attend??? I am still crossing my fingers for NYU, but haven't heard yet. I also had an interview at Hunter (CUNY), but wasn't thrilled with it. Please offer advice!

Background?
GPA: 3.7
GRE: 149, 151, 4.5

Which is the most affordable for you?

The majority of people on this forum are going to tell you to go to the cheapest school you get in because everyone takes the same NPTE and you are not going to get a boost in salary just for going to a "better" school. Wise advise.

However. I do not think cost should be the only deciding factor. Have you visited all the programs? What is important to you? Don't sacrifice something that is important just to save money. For example, I'm fine paying more for a program affiliated with a large research institution, rather than saving money by attending a program at a small school without any research faculty. To each his own. What are you willing to pay more for? What are you willing to miss out on?

You might check the pre-PT forum, there are class specific threads popping up for most schools this time of year. And there are probably threads regarding these schools specifically from previous years too.

Touro is the cheapest, but I haven't heard great things about it. They also don't have a first-time pass rate or graduation that is as high as NYMC or LIU. I'm trying not to worry about price because I am going to come out with loans regardless. I wanted to be in NYC, but NYMC is ranked higher than LIU (Touro's ranking isn't available). So I was just curious if anyone has any good deciding factors between the two?

Congrats on the multiple acceptances!
This is a tough question to answer, since it's very personal decision (you're the one who will have to live with it!), but here are the things I'm considering in choosing which school to attend:
  • Overall cost of attendance (tuition, living expenses, etc)
  • Strength of program (rankings don't mean a lot, but are definitely a factor to consider, as well as board pass rate)
  • Gut feel (coming from visiting the campus, meeting current students and professors - could you see yourself at this school)
I don't know enough to comment on the NY schools to help you there, but for my schools, I made a pros/cons list for both. I still haven't decided, as I'm waiting to hear back from a couple other programs, but hopefully this will help when the time comes. Good luck!!

If the cost is at most, under 10k in tuition between the two then go with where you feel you will be the happiest and most successful. If the cost is > 10k in tuition, go to the cheapest program. You do not want to have an unnecessary mortgage on your life due to an impulsive decision.

I agree 100%, this is my philosophy as well and actually I have also thought of $10k difference as the cutoff for whether cost is the deciding factor myself.

When you say well this school will cost me $110k and this school will cost me $130k, they don't sound that different, but if you say well this is going to cost another $20,000....then you realize that 20 grand is nothing to sneeze at.

And OP I would go based more off the school's record of students having academic success (graduating and passing NPTE) then rankings. Ranking can be unavailable or unpublished in things like USNWR for a variety of reasons, and ranking isn't particularly big dig in PT anyway.
