I have gotten all my recommendation letters, but I don't know which ones to send. All the schools I am applying to want at least 2 academic letters from science professors and one from a dentist/non academic. I have gotten letter from the dentist I shadow, 2 bio professors (one also acts as my advisor), and my research professor. I know that my research professor wrote a great letter, but would the schools consider him one of the academic letters? Would it not look good to send in all four letter to the schools when they require only 3?

I am in the exact same position as you. My thinking is that as long as your research professor is an actual professor who teaches courses, which mine does do, it should be equal. I also have two academic teachers (microbio and ochem), and I'm thinking of sending in the ochem and my research professor. I also think that you should stick to the amount of letters that the schools want, no extras. Hopefully other people will have more input on this topic! 😀

I called two of the schools after posting this question and they both said that four letters would be alright. They said that three is the minimum.

I have a question as well. Do you guys think Biometrics professor will qualify as one of the 2 bio science recommendations?

Biometrics is under Bio category in my schedule, but it's more about statistics, probabilites etc. used for research if you want to see if results are significant etc...

If I were u...I'll send them all !!.....and savvysearch...If it's under biology...just send it..u'll lose nothing!!

send in all the letters you have . . . if they ask for three and you send five . . . they are going to read all five, they might not care to see all five, but they are going to read all of them and take all of them into account. good luck.
