I am 100% sure I want to go to dental school after college. I recently limited down my college options to Brown University and NYU's 7 year BA/DDS program. I'm leaning toward Brown just because it has been my top choice for years. However, I know how competitive dental school admissions is lately and was just wondering what experienced Pre-dents out there. In the 7 year dental program at NYU, i'd do both my undergrad and grad at NYU. I've also heard mix things about NYU dental. I'm in no rush to finish my education and financially, both schools will cost the same. Should I take security and go to NYU or go to Brown and then apply to dental schools?

Most dental schools don't really mind where you go to school at for your undergrad, you'll find yourself surrounded by people who have been out of school for 10 years, those who went to community college, and then those who attended state schools, once you end up in dental school. The important thing is to do well at your school and be involved. Only a handful really care about community college credits, I'd tell you to call around and find out. The 7 year accelerated program is an option to think about...a lot of schools have these yet they are very competitive. Good luck in whatever you decide.

Well, if I were you, I'd choose to go to Brown.. Why not challenge for the opportunity if it was your dream school ever? And it's a damn good school, not many people get an admission to IVY Leagues.. And the crowd that you'll be able to get aquainted with will have more sense of community spirit, compared to NYU. Besides, I think it'll be more fun to experience two types of universities, rather than just sticking in NYU for 7 years..^^;

It seems that you're qualified enough to be accepted to a dental school anyway, and NYU clearly hasn't the best dental school, that's for sure..

Well, it's your choice, I'm just giving you my opinion. The final decision totally depends on you. Hope you choose a path that you'll never regret. Good luck!!

Personally, I don't think there is any reason to rush through your undergraduate in three years so you can get into dental school earlier. I had a great time in college and wouldn't trade the experience for anything. Brown is an awesome school and if I were you, I wouldn't sacrifice my top choice school just to skip one year of college, even if it guarantees that I'll get into dental school. You'll do great at the undergraduate level and get into dental school even without NYU's 7 year program (and I'm sure of this because you got into Brown). Good luck and congratulations.
