Did anyone extern here? Interview here? Did you like it? Dislike it? Was the program benign or malignant? What was the scope of the program like, ie, well rounded, implants, 3rds, dentoalveolar, orthognathic, broad scope, etc.

My most important question: How do you apply to an externship here? I know it is hands off. The website has contact info for the PD. Do I email him? What do I say? "Hi my name is scutwork, my class rank is this, can I extern?"

I externed here a little while back. VERY solid four year program. Only level 1 trauma center for 60 mile radius I believe and they're right off of the 95 so its MVA central. No ENT/Plastics residents and they take all face call (GPR takes tooth call). Lot's of everything including neck dissections (if I remember correctly) and tons of implants. Great down to earth residents as well as great attendings. Very tight knit group. Externship is "hands off". I was caught by the director, Dr. Granite, pulling teeth in the clinic and he gave me a little lecture but I think he was more pissed at the residents. Not even allowed to scrub in to hold sticks even thought I did unknowingly. I don't think he remembered b/c he still gave me an interview😛 I would stay for a max of one week to get a feel for the program and get your face known as you're gonna need every advantage to get in here as they only take one resident a year. I matched at my top choice but I would have been very happy here if I matched. Go to their website if you want info on externship applications. There is an official application but it is relatively easy to get the dates you want.

You need to contact the residency coordinator, Donna Kern.

this is a GREAT program. They let me interview there this past year out of the goodness of their hearts. You won't find a nicer group of residents/attendings.
