I also received the regular email everyone is reporting. Looks like there isn't a special one.
As a corollary to this, is anyone aware of someone who was put on the alternate list post-interview, but didn't receive the recent email?
There are a couple of posters (nbp.medlaw, zach1201) who say they are on the UCCOM alternate list, but have not yet spoken up.
I was looking through last year's UC c/o 2010 thread and found this:
Hey there hopeful UCCOM Class of 2010 Medical Students. I just wanted to see how everyone else's status was coming. I ask because I interviewed back in the first week of February and was told today that I've been assigned to the Alternate List. I immediately called the Dean and spoke with him at length about what such a designation means and the options staring at me. I am still awaiting word from a number of other schools in regards to acceptance (post-interview) but have UC as my #1. According to the office of admission, there is a difference between being waitlisted and being an alternate. I guess every year about 20-25 students are plucked from the alternate list when others who have been extended acceptance either fail to reply or choose to go elsewhere. With that being said, do any of you know the likelihood of actually making it this year from the alternate list? Do any of you have prior experience with this "special" list of student's awaiting acceptances? Thanks for any advice you can offer me..."
This is the first and only time I have heard about UC having both a waitlist and an alternate list. Has anyone else heard anything about this or is it random internet noise?

Actually, I was waitlisted at UC last year too and when I spoke to Dr. Manuel then his explanation seemed similar to this. However, he did not make a definitive distinction between the existence of an alternate list and a waitlist. He did imply that those who received the "special" email were basically in line for acceptance and that they were just waiting to receive their official transcripts, whereas those who received the regular email were kind of there just as backup for those in the special group. I wonder though if they stopped the usage of the "special" email because of the lack of movement in the alternate list in recent years caused them problems. It seems in the past few years, even though people received this email, they were still not accepted and many felt mislead. I just hope that there is more movement this year!!
So it's a kind of good news/bad news thing. The good news is that the alternate list is being kept to a shorter, more realistic length; the bad news is that the list doesn't move much?
To paraphrase Orwell, we are all special, some are just more special than others.
I noticed on nbp.medlaw's mdapplicant site that he did withdraw from the UC alternate list...just sharing the observation since you were curious🙂

Just found this thread but I am on the alternate list with the generic email that everyone else seems to have received. I'm waiting on UC and MSU as waitlists. Here's to something good happening for everyone soon😀
when did you interview?
Regular Admissions
- Interview / Regular Admissions - September - February
- Deadline / Regular Admissions (AMCAS) - November 15
- Deadline / All Regular Admissions Materials - January 15
- Formulation of Alternate List - May 15
- Classes Start - Mid August
Hey guys I am on the waitlist too. I don't post here much but I wanted to say I interviewed on 1/8 and am on the alternate list. I got the "plain" letter also. This is killing me!

I guess that since no one (apparently) got the Special Letter of years' past, we are all special. Speciality is, after all, relative.
It's under a week until May 15. Let hope we all get some good news soon.![]()

I'm withdrawing, so good luck to you guys!

If last year was any indication, it could well be into the month of June before all of the "multiple" acceptances are released and the Admissions Committee compiles the alternate list.
Ok...
I'm just going to post what the admissons office wrote in response to an e-mail I sent them. (yeah, they'll know exactly who I am, but hopefully they won't hold that against me if they get a few less calls)

Guess things won't really be moving for Cinci any time soon... hang in there everybody.
This seems a little odd. Last year they began giving out alternate list acceptances very shortly after May 15. Maybe the phrase: "all of the "multiple" acceptances are released" is the key.
In any event, exactly what is the question to which you posted the response?
Has anyone heard anything? If so, please share!
TY
still nada...
I don't know (obviously) but I am guessing that Cincinnati will make its first set of waitlist offers on Monday.
As I recall, they made their previous offers, alternate list notifications etc. on Mondays.
Just a guess. Anyone have alternate hypotheses?
Your guess is as good as mine... IIRC, I saw a few people got accepted on 5/16/06 (a tuesday)... but so many things seem to be going different this year I've given up using the past years as a reference.
Just thought I'd let you guys know, even though I don't normally post here. I checked my status today and it had changed to accepted!! I also got the "normal" email when I was put on the alternate list, and I interviewed Feb 26th.
Good luck! It's moving!!
Awesome
I am in state, about to graduate from OSU.
The first thing I noticed different about my status page was that there were 5 or 6 tabs along the top instead of the normal two. The actual acceptance was at the very bottom of my status page.
That's odd. My MedOneStop page *always* had six tabs across the top. [Applicant/Directory/My Course/My Info/other Resources/Report]. I click "My Info" then click on "Check my Applicant Status" to see what's going on with my application.
Is yours different or did you do something different?
I assume the status page you refer to is the same one I go to (it was the one I used to scheduled my interview.
Many thanks. And congrats again.
