$50 total for all four years.

$25 a year.

we buy lunches for the class meetings, breakfasts for the M1s on their exam days, a welcome back to school party, an end of school party, and various class projects throughout the year.

Well, I guess we're lucky compared to other schools. I've been postponing paying my dues because I thought it was silly to pay that much for a few parties.

Holy cow, your class officers get salaries??? How much? we are obviously getting screwed here 😱

yep, i held out until the very end of first year...but finally i gave in due to the overwhelming "pressure" the class reps put on us.

Ours were $50 for all 4 years too, but I never paid them. The medical student government people were all over us during first year for the longest time trying to collect them. In alot of ways, it was a very coordinated effort using all sorts of good marketing and group-think tactics. They kept promising us the money would be for the formal last year, and yet the tickets still ended up being $65/person. Much of the class was shocked that the cost of the formal wasn't released until 95% of the class paid up.

Still many are mad that they paid the dues, and we just got an e-mail recently about how our money is sort of being used and of course, it will be used someday, so those few people who haven't paid up still should! Haha, yeah right. As far as I can tell, we've had one event (a BBQ) at the end of last year, and of course I was told that I shouldn't come.

Meanwhile, my fiancee goes to Temple, and they have tons more class events and parties, which are generally better provisioned and attended (with the exception of the Nu Sigma Nu events here). Their formal was cheaper and just as nice. They don't have silly "class dues". The Penn MSG people just blame it not getting enough money from the administration, so it leads me back to wonder where that $38k/year is going exactly. Oh well... Rant over.
