I've always wondered.. with so many different ways that colleges number their courses.. how do they know which is an upperdivision and which is lower?

I think they can look at the course names for the smaller schools. The big schools, adcoms are so familiar with, that they probably know. Also, committee letters supposedly contain what the premed advisor thinks was the relative difficulty of your chosen curriculum.

So they know 😉
