Hi all,

I'm new to this forum (joined just a few days ago), and it's so exciting to see all the acceptances, interviews and waitlists! It's made me wonder, though, how many schools did everyone apply to? You don't have to say which schools if you don't want, but I'd be curious to see what the "norm" for the group is. Thanks😀

I applied to 5: UC Davis, Penn, CSU, WSU, and Purdue.

UGA- still waiting- notices go out March 21 (Rejected)
St. Matthews (SMU)-Accepted (Declined due to no financial aid)

Classs of 2013...here I come!

I think maybe the OP meant if you were accepted (Class of 2012) how many schools did you originally apply to?

I might be wrong, though...

WSU, Oregon, UC-Davis, CSU, Western. I pretty much went with all the schools vaguely near/on the West Coast, as I didn't want to move too far out of the area -- between family and my boyfriend in LA, I think it'd be hard for me to be happy that far away. UC-Davis and CSU were the long shots but I went for 'em anyway and they rejected me. The other three gave me interviews though, so we'll see!

that is what I meant, sorry for not making that clearer 🙂

I applied to 7:

Texas A&M (in-state): Interviewed
Kansas State: accepted
The Ohio State: interviewed
Michigan State: Interview on the 19th
Colorado State: waitlisted
Upenn: nothing yet
Minnesota: rejected without and interview

only 1: KSU-Accepted

I applied to 9, withdrew from 1 and declined interview at 1. Too many, really, except I'm navigating a 2-body problem (coordination with partner) and so we had to cast a wide net.

Just one, Ohio State, Interviewed in Dec

Alot. Didnt want to wait another year to go. think it was about 12 or 13 schools in the US and abroad.

4 total:

Cornell: rejected
CSU: rejected
MSU: interview on 15th

in retrospect, i think i should have applied to a couple more just for kicks.

😱 that is a lot of money to spend on applications

My first thought was actually about how hard it must have been to get all those pre-reqs in!

I had better not let my brother see this thread--he'll kick my behind for knowing that someone else applied to that many schools and I didn't. Maybe I should have applied to more than 7, but at the time, it seemed like a pretty high number to me. Doesn't really seem that way when I've already got two rejections, though, and one of them from my IS :scared:

I applied to 4:

CSU-interviewed
WSU- interview next week
KSU-rejected
UC-Davis- rejected

I applied to 6.

CSU: Rejected (theoretically may still be considered through FAVCIP, but not holding my breath.)
UC Davis: Heard nothing yet
Wisconsin: Nothing yet
VA-MD: Interviewed (today!)
Iowa State: Interviewed
KSU: Accepted!

I applied to 4:

LSU= inteview 2/21 (the one I really want!!!)

other 3 were insurance policy schools (I want to get started; I am getting old):

Edin. = accepted
glasgow = declined interview
London = declined interview

I applied to 12 because I did not want to have to apply again!

WSU- interview
Iowa- interview
Ohio- interview/rejected
RVC- interview declined
Glasgow- interview declined
Edinburgh- accepted
Kansas- rejected
Minnesota- rejected
Illinois- rejected
LSU- nothing yet
Tennesee- nothing yet
Penn- nothing yet

I would really prefer to stay in the states, but at least I know I get to go vet school!

Texas A&M: Interviewed, no final decision yet
Tufts: Interviewed, no final decision yet
Va-Md: Interview next week

WSU: interview
CSU: waitlist
Penn: no word yet
Wisc: no word yet

All the waiting is making me wish I had applied to a few more, oh well...good luck to us :luck:

I applied to 4:

Illinois: Interview 2/18
Mississippi: Interview 2/19
Purdue: Interview 2/22
Iowa: interviewed on 1/11

Not this coming week but the one starting on the 18th is going to super busy!! but i am soo excited. 🙂

Four last year:

Edinburgh - Accepted & temporarily enrolled... *no comment*
Massey - Accepted, but declined
Penn - No word, so I was either eventually rejected or they just forgot about me, but I KNOW they received it
Va-MD - Wait list, which I removed myself from for Edinburgh

Four this year:

Penn - Accepted
Cornell - Rejected
Colorado - Rejected
Wisconsin - Dunno yet

If I had to do it again, even though it's an inconvenience, stressful and costly, I wouldn't apply to any colleges that didn't require an interview. On paper I'm sure I look just like everyone else and supplemental applications just ask you to repeat all information you already had on the VMCAS rather than trying to find out about you as a person, so... 👎

Last year: one

Tufts: waitlisted

This year: one

Tufts: interviewed 2/6 Accepted 3/4!!!

I guess I should probably list my schools instead of giving a number. I applied to 7:
Tufts: Interview on 2/11
RVC: Interview on 2/13
Illinois: Interview on 2/18
Penn: heard nothing
Tennessee: heard nothing
Cornell: rejected
Minnesota: rejected

I like this thread because it compiles all of the info we could see elsewhere, but who wants to go to the trouble 😀.

My list:

Auburn: waiting for IS interview to come out 😱
Cornell: Waitlist
ISU: accepted
KSU: accepted
Penn: Interview 2/22

My school choices were a combination of research interests and proximity to my parents in Kansas.

I agree Bobdog, I love reading these! I'm just still waiting on that elusive UPenn interview... only a couple weeks left, although the application process is so stressful, in a strange way, I love it! The constant adrenaline rushes have been great... almost like playing "academic sports" if that makes any sense? 🙂

Good luck everyone!

I applied to 14. I looked at the schools I had the pre-requisites for and didn't really know how to narrow it down from there so i hoped that the extra it would cost would be worth it to not have to apply again! And with cornell being my IS...i figured i had the same chances OOS as IS at many schools!
The list:

Auburn: no word
UC - Davis: rejected
Cornell: rejected
UIUC: Interview 2/18
Missouri: rejected
Penn: no word
Tufts: rejected
VMR: no word
Washington: rejected
Wisconsin: ?
Edinburgh: no word
Glasgow: Interview 2/12
Royal: no word
Ross: interview 12/20 but no word after

except for Penn im not too optimistic on the "no word" schools. But hey - you never know!

Two
Upenn-no word (my instate)
Univ of Florida-they send out letters next week to everyone

I applied to 6 this year:

Missouri - rejected
Western U - offered interview
Illinois - offered interview
KSU - rejected
LSU - no word yet
OSU - Accepted!! 😀

One last year: UF - made alternate list

One this year: UF - awaiting word on interview

Might as well participate!

Applied to five schools:

Cornell (IS): Accepted
CSU: Alternate
Illinois: Withdrew
OSU: Accepted
Penn: Accepted

8! A lot, but it's my second cycle...

NCSU-no word yet
KSU-accepted
Illinois-interviewing
Auburn-interviewed
OSU-interviewed
Miss. St.-interviewing
Purdue-interviewing
Penn-no word yet

I hope this doesn't sound mean, but I don't have any acceptances yet, so I hope it's okay.

It comforts me to see people have been rejected to schools I got interviews to, but have been accepted elsewhere. I don't mean to offend anyone, but that's what this thread does for me. I am by no means celebrating anyone's rejection, because that really sucks, but it does give me hope that I'll get in somewhere...this waiting is just killing me, though.

How I read your statement is that it comforts you to see that some schools may be looking for different things in a candidate than others and that this can make the process can seem rather random. One result of that could be Candidate A (an awesome candidate) can be rejected at School X and accepted at School Y while Candidate B (a differently awesome candidate) can be rejected at School Y but accepted and School X. So seeing that in action gives you hope. And I don't think you should feel bad about that. Most of us could probably feel similarly, even though we basically wish for the best outcomes possible for everyone.

Hang in there...I'm sure your acceptance is right around the corner!

OK, I feel lame that I just put the number I've applied to. so here's more detail (it is nice to have a one-stop shop for an overview of everyone's progress!). I'm a WA resident.

UC-Davis VSTP (ahh, so nervous I'm going to puke, on tuesday!!)
Tufts + DVM/PhD
Minnesota

No word yet: Wisconsin
Declined Interview: Illinois
Withdrew: Penn

I applied to three:

Glasgow - interviewed 2/6
Edinburgh - conditional offer
UC Davis - no word yet

I sort of noticed the same thing... it looked to me that a lot of people got both OSU and Western U. interviews, so perhaps the two schools are looking for similar criteria! Makes me think I should have applied to OSU since I got invited to interview at Western and not at a couple of other schools that I thought number wise I'd get interviews. This thread might be helpful for future applicants that way.

I applied to 4 (all OOS because I am from NJ)

CSU-accepted with small scholarship
Cornell- Accepted
Penn-Accepted (interviewed on 2/15)
Tufts-declined interview
