Is APA American Psychological Association? This is an assignment for a Food Science class.

I'm so confused.

Apparently there is an AP (Associated Press) style but Google isn't giving me any help with what THAT might be.

But maybe this girl in my group means APA. Sounds a lot more likely than Associated Press (as if either was likely).

I've e-mailed her to ask what she meant but she hasn't responded. So maybe I'll just do AMA and call it a day.

Thank you, and yes I am a young'n. My genetics test was about linkage analysis, and allelic/locus heterogeneity (which I did not know as gonna be on the test, so I did not study it😱), LOD scores, and the papers we read for discussion. I need to beat whoever told me upperdiv human genetics was gonna be fun. My sister told me that our class went about as much detail as her class, here's to hoping med school genetics will be easy!😀

I thought "Oh boy! I can buy whatever drink I want." So I went to the local grocery store to see what they had. I looked and looked and looked at their drinks. All different kinds of wines and beers and harder liquors.

...and I ended up buying a pumpkin spice latte from Starbucks 😉.

Yeah, haha, so apparently according to the e-mails I'm getting back, every group member has cited their part differently. I did AMA, one person did APA, and the last person did Journal of Food Science style. :laugh:

You can also go into large liquor stores without a parent present! Even if you don't drink, now you can revel in the fact that you can buy $15 cheese and risque novelty cards.

I like cheese... but why would I buy cheese at a liquor shop... wouldn't other places have better quality?

I would, but I don't wanna make it look like I am stealing something... plus I do not know where there are any liquor stores in Westwood or Irvine for that matter...(my parents frown upon alcohol of any kind, and so do I...)

You'd be suprised. I'm not sure if everyone has Liquor Barns in their area, but they carry some of the more esoteric cheeses and crackers out there. Their deli also makes some of the best sandwiches with weird sauces out there. Just sayin...

Well, it's not like you can order draft beer or anything. But, yeah, they'll give you six-pack and send you on your way. It can be pretty convenient. :laugh:
 
If you know for sure that you want to go to a specific school above all others, is it helpful to write a post-interview, pre-waitlist letter of intent? I'm debating whether or not to send one.

It totally depends on the school. It may increase your chances for acceptance, but decrease your chances for financial aid. Or it may not.

See, I'm struggling with a similar question, only I know there are TWO schools I like above all others, and I really can't decide which one I like the best! I really want to send them both an LOIntent, but the letter just feels weird saying, "If I was accepted to your school, I would decline my current offers of admission and withdraw my application from all other schools except one, because both schools are so excellent that I have resolved to not choose a "favorite" between the two unless I get the opportunity to choose." Just sounds so wishy-washy... is it even worth sending? I want them to know they're one of my very top choices, and to talk at length about WHY their school is great for me, without actually making a promise to them that I might not be able to keep. Ideas?
 
Aw, a current MS1 at UMiami has decided to characterize UF/Gainesville and let's just say it's not very pretty.

Oh well.

Wait until you have a critical mass of acceptances; at that point you can state "I have been accepted to Schools X, Y, and Z, but I remain very interested in School B"

It will carry more weight if you can show that you've interviewed places but you're still interested.

i love it when people do this, it's like ... really, so you're telling me that you attended UF and then UMiami. coz if you're didn't how do you know what it's like to go to UF. just ignore those ******ed people, pianola, they just can't help themselves, maybe you could even throw in, so do you have any input on these schools ... list the ones you have been accepted in ... i have too many and i don't know which one to go to, maybe you can help

I have already been accepted at two other schools. Also, one of these schools I did research at for two summers, so they should know about my long-standing interest in the school.

Yeah, that's the part that kind of irritates me. *sigh* I'm not saying UF is the center of the intellectual universe but it is a very good school that has been very kind to me at all stages of my academic pursuits. I'll always appreciate that (whether or not I decide to attend).

Awesome. I think there's nothing wrong with writing two letters of interest. Two letters of intent is a little different -- that's a bit of a sticky situation. If you can describe exactly why you would like to attend School B, then you shouldn't hesitate to put it down in writing and let the adcoms know exactly why you feel you'd be a good fit.

My $0.02 for whatever it might be worth.

I saw that as well... I was wondering what all the animosity from UM toward UF was... I guess the world will never know 🙂 (unlike the # of licks to get to the center of the tootsie roll pop, which I have on good counsel has been found out after intensive research efforts...). Anyways, I love u pianola u are probably the awesomest sdner I have met, so I wouldn't let it bug you! Cheers! 😎

to UIC although I think i'm going to write a letter of update versus a letter of intent. I'd write a letter of intent after the interview though. my life would fall into place perfectly if i got in there. *sigh*

Smart. Don't waste your money. They are there to rip you off... I mean why are casinos present? To make money. How do they make money? By ripping people off... Casino's couldn't exist if they just gave everyone money...


On a COMPLETELY unrelated note... Does anyone know how to get rid of a fruit fly infestation? The subletters over the summer must have brought some weird fruits over the summer and there are too many flies... it is disgusting... And they are still here... we keep killing them, but there are thrice the number now...

we had those too and i thought it was just cuz my roommate left her bananas out. do you have a covered garbage can in your kitchen? we found out they like any sort of moisture- so if you leave cups of water out or if you have standing water in your sink or something like that, you might try getting rid of that. good luck, they are so annoying!
