Class of 2013!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I just realized that running before going to sleep is a VERY bad idea... I slept at 9:30 pm last night, and woke up at 5:45 AM, and I am still tired.🙁 At least it was a good work out, and who knew that the UCLA perimeter was 4 miles?
Good job!!! I decided to go to the gym yesterday at 4 pm...and then did not leave until 9! 😱 I can barely move right now because I'm so sore!

Lol, I have the same problem sometimes. But you gotta do something to stay in shape, right? How long does it take you to do 4 miles? I fluctuate between 30-35 minutes.
It depends... On the track it takes me about 40 min ( I run at a constant speed of 6 miles/ hr so that I do not get too tired and I do not like stopping) ...But yesterday took me 50 min!.... but in my defense, it was really hilly and I did stop to talk with one of my friends when I got lost in Westwood😳... so technically it ended up being about 4.5 miles in 50 minutes...

Wow, 5 hours...you must be one buff birdie. I do not really like the gym... I prefer to run in the open air because the gym gets kind of stuffy... although I do like to play raquetball though... and it is impossible to play raquetball outside

No judgments here 🙂 I am also not a big fan of the gym. Weight training is too repetitive and boring for my taste. I prefer running outdoors but it's cold right now on the east coast so I settle for a treadmill.

Also, I try to play basketball when the weather's warm. Hopefully, there are other med students who are half-decent so we can get a good game going.

Yah, the perks of living in SoCal... actually it is rather cold when I start running, but after a mile, it magically becomes really nice weather:laugh:

As for basketball... I suck at it... and for this reason I do not care for it at all... either that, or I am known for having a slight disdain for things that everyone and their moms like... like in middle school everyone was obsessed with wrestling, and I hated it... In high school everyone was obsessed with basketball, and I kind of hate it now... and now in undergrad, everyone is obsessed with drinking... which I think has gotta be the stupidest obsession...

Time to get off my soapbox😳

HEY! All I do is play basketball at the gym! I was hoping that there are med students who like to play, too.

Yeah, I used to play all the time in undergrad, not so much now that I'm in the working world 🙁

Oh joy... I can see it now... I am gonna be the oddball in med school also...🙁

I ball a little.

Man, I suck at b-ball. I was "that guy" growing up and I hated it. I was good at all the other stuff like soccer, baseball, backyard football, but everyone always wanted to play basketball. 😡

haha im a girl who does ballet... i am terrible at basketball. actually broke my pinkie finger in high school practicing chest passes and was out for the entire term- happiest term of gym ever!!
on another note, i decided to wait until after new years to send a LOI to nyu. i called this morning and they said that they will sendout the first round of acceptances in december. yayayay!!!!!!!!!

It's okay, I suck at basketball too (despite the fact that I'm 6'4"). I can fake my way through the other team sports that you mentioned, but I really excel at individual sports like track/field, swimming, diving, golf, etc.

I agree... No one ever wants to go and play Tennis, or some other sport I at least have some, albeit a miniscule amount of, skill in... And whenever I ask my friends or roommates if they wanna come running with me, they look at me as if I might as well just ask them to bite the heads off of puppies with me...

I know, right? And if you want to get a pick up game of soccer (my forte) going, you have to basically put up flyers for two weeks in advance to get enough people to make it fun. There's no really good way to do one on one with soccer.

I definitely have trouble getting ppl to go running with me. It's usually just me and my ipod...

I'm 6'7" and can't play bball. Volleyball however, I'm pretty good at. 🙂

Thats because basketball is by far the best sport.....no use in arguing this one.

QFT. It's also one of the only sports that's decently fun to play by yourself. You can't say that for soccer, football, or baseball.

😍

I can't believe chad and chuck don't play basketball! You guys are so tall...you'd dominate the game! I'm only 5'6'', so I have a harder time competing with guys (in pickup games). Thankfully, I have a decent shot and am fast enough to make up for my height.

I'm glad there are so many med students who'd be willing to play! Now, I have to find a way to get into the same med schools as aznboy, chubs, and spurs!

It's definitely the easiest and most convenient to play. All you need is one hoop, a driveway, and at least one friend. You can even play it inside. Soccer has all those things working against it, plus Americans seem to hate it.

So I just got 2 third-authorships for papers I've worked on. I know third author isn't very impressive, but still it feels pretty good!

Congrats!

I don't have any authorships, but I did get a "special thanks" in a paper. woot!

:soexcited:Congrats.:soexcited: I do not have any publications!

Do you mind telling us which journals?

The journal is called "Sleep", it's sort of the foremost journal for sleep medicine (never been so happy to have a big-name PI). Anyways, thanks guys! 😀

Congrats, and if you interview on 2/4, I can meet you!

thanks, unfortunately, i can't schedule any date ... all the dates have been taken and i was just offered the interview yesterday ... jeez people are fast. i was just deciding, i guess i have to think faster

i play bball too, was on representative team for city in high school but 1. you are all boys 2. you are all going to different schools to me 🙁

and LET, any publication is good! 👍 you have your name published somewhere, it doesn't matter where!

Do you already have your copy of the journal?

Nope we just submitted it, but my PI said that his articles "have never been rejected", so we'll see. It's so getting framed as soon as it's published...😀

 Good for you.

My mom still has a journal article she wrote framed in our basement. It's the kind of thing that sticks with you, I guess.

dooooone with finals! :highfive:

I'll argue that one. No way!!! I might be biased b/c i am god awful, but even then, part of being a bad ass sport is it has to be enjoyable to watch. Basketball is one of the most boring sports to watch (altho its far second behind baseball) wth the exception of the last 30 seconds. And thats only IF it happens to be a close game. One of the most irritating things about basketball is when a team has obviously lost the game, but they make the last 45 seconds last about 15 minutes b/c they foul the other team every single time. Dude, just suck it up. You lost. Move on.

Hey, congratulations!!

Big plans tonight?

meh, not really. All of my friends are done tomorrow or the next day. So ill have big plans the next few nights 🙂 For now I am just relaxing, probably catching up on TV shows. Oh, and I got the new york times for the first time all year today. Itll be nice to sit and read. I'm such a nerd.

We are trying to go paint balling or something fun on friday during the day. Our rugby team is also trying to put together a drunken inner squad rugby game, haha. That isn't going to end well I know.

I LOVE volleyball! I think there's intermurals in med school and i'm totally joining. granted i'm not totally overwhelmed with school work.
